Ahead of the Barnet fixture, the Club explained that they cannot afford to run away travel at a loss. This means that coaches will not run where there is not sufficient interest.
In recognition of the later kick-off and the concerns expressed by some supporters, the Club went ahead with the coach to Barnet despite a lack of interest. As part of this decision, they promised to publish the costs of running the coach service.
The Club have passed the following information to OASF:
There were 21 passengers on the club coach to Barnet. This includes the coach steward who gets free travel.
The total cost of the coach was £1,545. The revenue generated from ticket sales was £775. This means the Club lost £770 running the coach to Barnet.
The Club have reiterated to us that it isn’t financially viable to accept these losses in future, so will continue to cancel coaches where there is insufficient interest. However, they have reassured us that they remain committed to finding sustainable, long-term solutions for away travel and will continue to work with OASF to work towards that goal.
OASF ran an away travel survey earlier this year alongside the Club. Over 300 supporters completed it. The results were shared with the Club earlier this year and we will continue to discuss them and any further feedback we receive from supporters. For example, we have offered to run expression of interest surveys for future long-distance trips to understand interest in advance, similar to what the Club did ahead of the Barnet game.
